For the sake of an indie web

For the sake of an indie web

What.

How is it 2026?

And how has it been three fucking years since I last posted?

I mean, I know the answer: I got busy, you know? We bought this apartment, and we've spent the last three years living in it, paying the mortgage, focusing on our careers and our not-so-baby boy (he's a teenager now!!). We got busy livin', as Andy Dufresne might say, and after I turned this site into my "professional web presence" (now at glennmason.dev) ... I just kinda forgot about it for a while. Oh, I thought about it, even tried to write a couple of "technical leadership" posts--which I will have to rewrite some time soon--but I never felt good about mixing my personal 'blog and corporate persona, even if I'm hardly the most edgy anti-capitalist on the world-wide web.

And sure, working for Pa1antir didn't help, didn't help one bit. Even writing name--in a draft, entirely local--feels a little dangerous, but it's been, what, 12 years? Sooner or later, I've gotta get over whatever "spookiness" had me keeping such a low profile and get back to feeling like just another weirdo on the Internet: because that's what the Internet was supposed to be for.

The more the billionaire class shove AI slop down our throats, the clearer the picture of their desired techno-feudalist future, and the more I want to just, you know, NOT do that. Do something else instead, for no good reason, and with no thought of monetisation or parasocialisation. (I do want to record some videos for a YouTube channel one of these days, but even that is unlikely to ever generate income.)

So will this site refresh make me more likely to silence the inner critic, and the inner hermit, and post whatever comes into my head at the time it comes into my head? I definitely have things to write about, because a LOT has happened in the last three years, so ... yeah, maybe I will.

Let's post this one and see.
