Hindsight is 2020
Jan 1, 2021

It’s 8am on the first day of the month, and despite the usual late night, I’ve been up for hours. Jules has been an early riser for years now, and it has had the effect of training me to wake up at 6am each morning — for no good reason, since he’s pretty independent in the morning these days — and so here I am.

Wrapping up the year
Dec 21, 2019

We made it. It’s probably the same feeling every year, but it certainly feels like this one has been a tough slog. From work (what the hell??) to learning how to help Jules with dyslexia, there’s been a steep learning curve for all of us this year.

Oh Look! Only Three Months Later!

Life keeps happening1… We’ve moved into a new place in Sydney: a small, new-build townhouse with undercover parking (rare in Sydney!). The place is so close to Jules’ school that his grandmother (who now lives with us) can walk him there each morning; it’s also close to a bouldering gym and a microbrewery, so I’m pretty much covered however I want to spend my time.

Hello Monday! I’m feeling unreasonably optimistic again this morning, and can’t really see why (but I guess that’s the definition of “unreasonable”). Weekend was sort of typical, with no real “events” to speak of, just housework and study – oh, did I mention I’m studying?

The Long Plan

Keeping Ourselves Busy
Apr 30, 2017

It’s been a couple of weeks since our last post. Jules is back at school, giving Dee the space to ramp up her job search — with a twist, as she’s looking to move into agile project management (i.

Oh, it’s Easter again already? What have we been up to? We’ve now done a full week of the I Quit Sugar programme, and I think it’s been pretty good: the food has been yummy, the recipes easy to follow, and I haven’t felt like I’m missing out on anything.

The other Taronga
Apr 9, 2017

Sad-ish news: Dee’s contract is not being renewed. So she’s on the hunt for work! Jobs, you are ALLOWED to hunt. Just leave these guys alone. Despite our new single-income status, we spent last weekend at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, “glamping” in the Zoofari Park there.
